A Crisp Autumn Morning
As the leaves turned shades of gold and amber, Kate’s thoughts turned to the cozy comforts of fall. The sweet aroma of pumpkin spice filled the air, inspiring her to embark on a seasonal baking adventure—making pumpkin scones.
Pumpkin Scones Ingredients
To bring her pumpkin scone recipe to life, Kate gathered the ingredients for creating a harmonious blend of pumpkin goodness.
Pumpkin SPICE
In a large mixing bowl, Kate combined two cups of all-purpose flour with a generous helping of cinnamon, pumpkin spice, baking powder, and salt. The mixture was alive with the warm and inviting scent of autumn.
The unmistakable fragrance of pumpkin spice filled the kitchen as Kate preheated her oven to 400°F. She couldn’t wait to indulge in that cozy flavor.
The Butter's Creamy Richness
The salted butter, cold and cubed, was the key to creating scones that were both tender and flaky. Kate worked the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembled coarse crumbs.
The Heart of Autumn
Pumpkin puree, the heart of her scones, was the star of the show. Whenever possible, Kate enjoyed handpicking a beautiful pumpkin to roast and puree for baked goods. When in a pinch, store-bough pumpkin puree worked well in this pumpkin scone recipe. Kate added canned pumpkin puree, giving her scones a vibrant orange hue and a rich, earthy flavor epitomizing Fall.
Kate stirred in brown sugar, infusing her scones with a gentle sweetness that perfectly complemented the spices. The rich, complex taste of the brown sugar added flavor and depth to the pumpkin spice scones.
To bring the dough together, Kate added heavy cream and vanilla. She gently folded these ingredients into the mixture, creating a dough that was both moist and aromatic.
Making Pumpkin Spice Scones
With lightly floured hands, Kate patted the dough into a 8-inch baking pan and used a knife to cut the dough into eight equally sized wedges, ready to be baked into delightful pumpkin scones. She popped them in the oven for 25 minutes. She eagerly awaited the golden transformation of her scones.
As the pumpkin scones emerged from the oven, the heavenly aroma of cinnamon and cloves filled the kitchen. Kate knew that these scones were a true embodiment of autumn’s comfort and delight.
Kate’s Pumpkin Scones became a cherished part of her autumn traditions. She enjoyed them with a cup of tea on cozy mornings, brought them along to gatherings, and shared them with family and friends to show her appreciation. Placed atop paper doilies and tied off with delicately-tied ribbons, she often gave them to friends and family as gratitude gifts, spreading the warmth and flavors of the season. Certainly, they were always well received, and soon became a little gesture her friends looked forward to every autumn.
Pumpkin Scones Recipe

• ½ teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 and ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
• ½ cup cold, salted sweet cream (butter, cubed)
• ½ cup canned pumpkin puree
• 1 large egg
•1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• ½ cup heavy cream
For the Glaze:
• ¾ cup powdered sugar
• ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (220°C) and line a 8-inch round baking pan with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and spices.
3. Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter to the dry ingredients and work it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. In a separate bowl, mix together the canned pumpkin puree, egg, vanilla extract, and heavy cream.
5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
6. With lightly floured hands, pat the dough into a 8-inch diameter circle in the center of the prepared baking sheet.
7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the top is lightly browned and a cake tester or toothpick inserted into the center of a scone comes out clean.
8. Serve and enjoy the warm, spiced delight of homemade pumpkin scones. Allow the scones to cool slightly on a wire rack if adding the glaze.
9. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, cinnamon, and heavy cream. Using a spoon, drizzle the glaze over each scone and allow to set before serving. (If the glaze is too stiff to drizzle, whisk in a splash of cream at a time to thin it out just enough to drizzle.)
